Heavily suckering, forming dense thickets. Canes covered with prickles when young, fewer on older canes. Flowers pink to red, solitary or in clusters of 2 to 3; very fragrant. Rosehipssmall, red, pear-shaped; keep good color into winter. Natural habitat is wet low grounds and stream borders. Produces hips in early autumn that are a winter treat for birds!
