This shady seed mix was developed right off of the blueprint from the oak woodlands that surround the Chicago Wilderness area. Specifically designed for installation at the onset of restoration and also for overseeding of woodlands that need a little bit of help, this mix contains some of the native species that begin and continue the healing process and provide competition for the dreaded buckthorn and other invasive plants, with a little bit of diversity added for functionality and aesthetics.
Certain native woodland plants can be challenging to establish from seed and can take a lot of time to develop, but these critical species are certainly some of the most beautiful woodland wildflowers. To be able to see these beauties in your yard it is recommended to augment the seed mix. Additional beauty and variety with woodland ephemeral flowers, grasses, and sedges found by clicking here.
Local woodland seed supply is highly variable, from season to season and year to year, so the ultimate mix may vary, but the design and intent of the mix will remain the same.
