Asclepias incarnata

We requested milkweed plugs to plant for our dwindling monarch population. Natural Communities asked if they could substitute our milkweed selection with the incarnata species, still a favorite of monarchs, because those plugs were doing a little better than the others.
38 well-established, healthy plugs of incarnata arrived a week later. They are in the ground and everyone of them is growing. Thank you Natural Communities!

Sweet grass

I am creating a sweet grass patch in my garden to develop the sweet grass for basket making. It arrived in great condition, cooled by the packaging. It’ll be a few years before I can use it for baskets, however, they are already of a size that I should have a little bit of a head start.

Very Pretty Sedge

We’ve had two different orders of Carex woodii. Both arrived in good condition, ready to plant. I lost a few plants to drought over this really dry summer, but I’m pleased with these. They fit in well where I need them and I expect they’ll do fine as they expand and fill in.

I’ve bought a lot of Carex, in several varieties from Natural Communities, and they’ve all been great.

The photos are of Carex planted approximately 5 months ago in a partially shaded area. They’re filling in nicely.
