Amelanchier laevis (Allegheny Serviceberry) is one of the best native ornamental shrubs because of its nice shape, beautiful flowers and foliage, and the fruit it produces. The fruit can attract unique bird species such as Cedar Waxwings in droves. The fruit has been known to be used in pies or eaten straight out. The berries are said to taste similar to blueberries with the seeds tasting like an almond. Splendid!
