Zizia aptera (Heart-leaved Meadow Parsnip)

Zizia aptera (Heart-leaved Meadow Parsnip) is a medium height prairie plant with beautiful yellow flowers. It is an attractive plant with a longer bloom time than most and can do well in landscaped settings. The flowers add early interest in the garden and give needed nectar to those earlier pollinators. Black Swallowtail use this plant as a host plant. Very similar to Zizia aurea (Golden Alexanders) in most ways except Zizia aptera (Heart-leaved Meadow Parsnip) has heart-shaped leaves.
