Carex cephalophora (Short-headed Bracted Sedge) is a cool-season sedge that typically only reached 1'-2' tall.  Carex cephalophora is a relatively common sedge throughout Illinois and typically found in disturbed habitats.  It can be found in a wide distribution of habitat and soil moisture, but most commonly can be found in dry to mesic woodlands and low competition meadows.
