Matteuccia struthiopteris (Ostrich Fern)

A great woodland garden fern that is the most widely cultivated in the Chicago area.  Arching elegance in mass plantings. Spreads slowly, but can take over a large space over time.  It is however easily controlled by digging the root corms as the need arises to control its spread.
