Thalictrum dioicum (Early Meadow Rue) is a relatively common plant in eastern central and northern Illinois when in the appropriate habitat type. Habitats can include rich mesic woodlands, wooded bottomlands like floodplains, shaded areas near cliffs and bluffs, and rocky ravines grading down to streams. In Illinois, this species is typically found in mesic and wetter woodlands. It typically blooms before the leaves of the tree have fully emerged taking full advantage of the early sunlight.
