How these planning references work
Landscape: the 12–18-inch band is a starting point for quantity comparison. Mature plant size, planting pattern and design goals may call for another spacing.
Warrior Plants: the Natural Communities augmentation reference is 3,000 plugs per acre of the zone being augmented—about 3.81 feet on center. It is not a universal wetland planting requirement.
Diversity planting: 24–36-inch spacing is an illustrative enrichment reference within selected planting patches, not a full-cover restoration prescription. Do not apply a patch density to an entire property unless the whole property will be planted that way.
This calculator estimates quantities only. It does not evaluate site preparation, hydrology, invasive-species control, erosion or long-term management.

Worked example: plugs for 1,000 square feet
At 18 inches on center on a square grid, each plant occupies 1.5 × 1.5 = 2.25 square feet. Divide 1,000 by 2.25 to obtain 444.44, then round up to 445 plants.

Choose the available flat size for your species. These are alternative totals. The estimate uses area and density; exact rows, bed edges and irregular shapes can change the layout. Exclude paths and unplanted areas, and choose spacing suited to mature plant size. A loss allowance is not included.
Formula: plants = area in square feet ÷ (row spacing in feet × in-row spacing in feet), rounded up for this calculator. Reference: University of Georgia Extension, plant spacing formulas and Table 30. The source supports the geometry; the 18-inch spacing is an illustrative choice.
