Blephilia ciliata (Downy Wood Mint)

With stacked clusters of Monarda like lavender flowers, Blephilia ciliata (Downy Wood Mint) impresses in any shade garden.  Blooming for about a month beginning in June it is very attractive to a wide array of pollinators. Its natural habitat can range from prairies to savannas making this a versatile garden plant.  This plant is much less aggressive than its traditional European garden mint cousins.  The minty taste seems to not be liked by most mammals including deer.
