Sporobolus heterolepis (Northern Dropseed)


Sporobolus heterolepis (Northern Dropseed) is likely the most widely used native grass in landscaping for good reason.  It is a very attractive fountain like foliage is quite a stunning treat.  Its clump growth habit with fine leaves lends itself very well to flower backdrops and textures.  Flowers of this grass can have a "buttery popcorn" smell, but others don't quite see it that way.
