Desmodium canadense (Showy Tick Trefoil) is a common plant of many prairie restorations and native landscapes because it is quite showy, but also because it fixes nitrogen increasing soil health improving the ecosystem. It is named for its showy flowers yes, but also from it seed pods sticking (Tick) to animal fur and the occasional human passer.  It is quite an ingenious seed dispersal mechanism, just like nature to find the most clever way to make it happen :)
