Iris virginica var. shrevei (Southern Blue Flag) is a medium height plant that is typically found in wet prairies or wet woods. It can do well in a landscaped setting as long as the soils are at least slightly wetter. It spreads outward in a circular pattern sometimes in a doughnut pattern leaving the inner area open for additional planting. An excellent plant for rain gardens as its showy flowers are exquisite.
