Salix discolor (Pussy Willow) is easily one of the most identifiable willows with its beautiful fuzzy catkins that are commonly used in floral arrangements.  It is considered a fast growing and short-lived small tree or large shrub that typically inhabits fens wet prairie, and marshes.This species is dioecious, which means that male and female plants are separate individuals.  Only males plants produce the attractive fuzzy catkins for which the plant is named. Females plants produce a smaller yellow-green catkin.  Sorry, we do not sex our plants.
