Symphyotrichum shortii (Short's Aster)


An aster of savannas and woodlands, Short’s Aster thrives in dry-mesic to dry soils with good drainage. It is distinguished from similar asters by larger light blue flowers, smooth margined leaves that come to a distinct point and narrow petioles. Asters are key pollinator plants that provide a welcome source of late-season nectar. Numerous moths use them as larval hosts.
