Baptisia australis (Blue Wild Indigo)
Baptisia australis (Blue Wild Indigo) is another perfect early season feature plant because it towers over other native plants early in the spring. Very similar in it's look and habit to White Wild Indigo, however, this beauty has spikes of blue flowers. The flower spikes atop a topiary bush-like shape add to its whimsy. Even after the bloom period, the manicured topiary shape remains throughout the season if you are in the pristine look. If you're not in the clean look mix this plant with other natives for a wildflower garden look. Believe me, it will not disappoint!
